The Game

I knew I would find you here.

Do you come here in search of a secret hint?
Something only you would know?

A message in code written only for you.
An infinite game we play back and forth.

I knew you would come.

So I meet you here right now in this place
because we cannot connect in the real world.

To tell you that your shoulder has
been much too cold for me as of late.

And I have no strength left in me to chisel
away at your double brick walls.

I forfeit.

Hands

You have the same hands you had
when we were teenagers.

Just older now.

Though they still know much more
than they should.

And less than I'd like.

The Freak Show

I have a friend who can reach right around
the back of her head and break her own neck.

Could come in handy if you were ever
about to be attacked by a shark
or something else.

Another friend can stick her tongue right down
the back of her throat so that it disappears completely.

Quite useful if you ever had to convince someone
that you couldn't speak
or pronounce the word "thesaurus".

And what strange talent do I have?
What unusual thing can I do with my appendages?

I have the ability to turn my heart into solid steel
so hard and impenetrable that nothing can get through.

Can be quite helpful really in a situation where
you're trying your best not to get hurt
or you have to appear like nothing
can break you.

You've always adored
the way my hand looks so tiny inside of yours.

How my eyes widen when telling a story.

And you've always savoured
the way I kiss your mouth like I'm really tasting it.

When my feet get tingly after you've touched me.

You've always cherished
the way I sigh quietly in my sleep while lying beside you.

And curl my body inside of yours when it's cold.

So this is my poem to you.
Because you've adored and savoured and cherished.
